Current Status as of February 2010

Design Development phase completed. Development of construction plans and specifications are underway. Construction anticipated to begin during July 2010.


Decisions Made on the Project

·   August 2009 – Council authorizes the City Manager to enter into a contract with Barnhart, Inc. in the amount of $47,073 for preconstruction services

·   August 2009 – Council adopted the amended Resolution 2009-45, approving a
Design Review Permit and Coastal Development Permit to construct a new fire station and associated improvements for a property located at 618 Birmingham Drive and include the changes to the Pastern wall.

·   October 2008 - Citizen Participation program was conducted at the existing Fire Station #2 located at 1867 MacKinnon Avenue on October 13

·   September 2008 - Council approves an amendment to the professional services agreement with Dominy + Associates Architects for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Certification of the Fire Station #2 construction project for an amount not to exceed $116,330

·   January 2006 - Council approves the Purchase and Sale Agreement and Joint Escrow Instructions for the purchase of 2.15 acres located at 618 Birmingham Drive

·   March 2005 - Council approves award of contract for architectural services to Dominy + Associates Architects

·   September 2003 - Council directs staff to implement rehabilitation program for Fire Stations #1, #2, #3

·   January 2002 - Council identifies rehabilitation of Fire Station #1, #2 and #3 as a goal for FY02/03

Location and Project Description

The future Fire Station #2 will be located at 618 Birmingham Drive on six contiguous lots owned by the City of Encinitas totaling 2.15 acres. The project will involve the construction of a 6,330 square-feet, single story Fire Station and accessory site hardscape and landscape. The new Fire Station will be built to house three Firefighters and two Ambulance personnel with the ability to house three additional Firefighters during times of need.


Project Budget

Total cost apportioned for the replacement of fire stations #1, #2, and #3 is $13,500,000.
