Fire Station Reconstruction Project - Fire Station #2
Current Status as of November 2008
The application for Design Review and Coastal Development Permit to construct a new Fire Station on the vacant lot was originally submitted to the Planning and Building Department on August 5, 2008. The comments received are being incorporated into the designs and will be resubmitted in November.
Decisions Made on the Project
· October 2008 - Citizen Participation program was conducted at the existing Fire Station #2 located at 1867 MacKinnon Avenue on October 13
· September 2008 - Council approves an amendment to the professional services agreement with Dominy + Associates Architects for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Certification of the Fire Station #2 construction project for an amount not to exceed $116,330
· January 2006 - Council approves the Purchase and Sale Agreement and Joint Escrow Instructions for the purchase of 2.15 acres located at 618 Birmingham Drive
· March 2005 - Council approves award of contract for architectural services to Dominy + Associates Architects
· September 2003 - Council directs staff to implement rehabilitation program for Fire Stations #1, #2, #3
· January 2002 - Council identifies rehabilitation of Fire Station #1, #2 and #3 as a goal for FY02/03

Location and Project Description
The future Fire Station #2 will be located at 618 Birmingham Drive on six contiguous lots owned by the City of Encinitas totaling 2.15 acres. The project will involve the construction of a 6,330 square-feet, single story Fire Station and accessory site hardscape and landscape. The new Fire Station will be built to house three Firefighters and two Ambulance personnel with the ability to house three additional Firefighters during times of need.
Project Budget
Total cost apportioned for the replacement of fire stations #1, #2, and #3 is $13,500,000.
