As the name implies, the Planning and Building Department has a broad range of responsibilities related to the orderly development of Encinitas

By implementing the goals and policies of the City's General Plan, a major objective of the department is to balance community growth with the quality of life, environment, and the economic stability of Encinitas.

To successfully carry out these activities, the Planning and Building Department is organized into four divisions:
