The City of Encinitas Environmental Committee was established by, and reports to, the City Council. The Mission Statement of the Committee is:

The Encinitas Environmental Committee (EEC) shall advise the Encinitas City Council by making recommendations on policy, programs, and regulations related to the city’s environment. Additionally, the EEC shall work to raise public awareness and promote a shared environmental vision by building partnerships between city departments, residents, and businesses. In carrying out its mission, the EEC shall encourage long-term, holistic thinking about environmental issues including, but not limited to, air and water quality, pollution prevention, beach and wetlands restoration, solid waste reduction/recycling, energy, and transportation.
The Committee is comprised of seven members of the community. The inaugural duties of the Committee are to:
- Draft an Environmental Policy for City Council approval
- Develop an Annual Work Plan to present to the City Council
- Make recommendations on projects as assigned by the City Council

Regular meetings are currently held the fourth Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Encinitas Civic Center. The Civic Center is located at 505 South Vulcan Avenue, at the southeast corner of Vulcan and “D” Street, directly across from the Coaster Station.
