The Fire Department's administrative division is comprised of seven employees who provide management direction and administrative support to the entire department which consists of Fire Operations and Support Services, Loss Prevention and Planning, Disaster Preparedness and Lifeguard Services. This division also coordinates and provides fiscal analysis of the activities of the department.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

Our staff is committed to raising the level of awareness about fire safety and emergency preparedness in our community by offering a variety of educational materials and services for residents. Whether you are a young student or senior citizen, you will find the services and information we provide very useful.

The Fire Department instructs the community on all types of skills necessary to protect themselves and their families by responding promptly and effectively when confronted with a fire of life safety hazards. Two programs that are an important part of our public education program are Project S.A.F.E. and the Adopt-A-School Program.

Project S.A.F.E. stands for "Safety Awareness for Everyone." Project S.A.F.E. targets groups of eight or more people requesting education on any fire safety topic. Examples of services provided are CPR instruction, first-aid instruction, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and disaster preparedness presentations. If a group in the community calls the Fire Department’s Public Education phone line to request a service, the call will be taken and an appointment will be made with the engine company that works in the area (typically, those firefighters from the nearest fire station). That engine company will then provide the public education training to the group.

The Adopt-A-School program promotes and enhances the Department’s involvement in the educational community and is also an important tool for reaching "at risk" youth. The program allows for each engine company to Adopt-A-School. The partnership between our firefighters and the schools they adopt allows our staff to educate and influence students on a one-on-one basis, while accepting responsibility for the development of the children attending that school in a more comprehensive way—one that is more likely to result in a fulfilling learning experience for all involved.

For more information about these two programs, or if you would like to schedule an appointment please click here or call our Public Education Line at 633-2815.
